How To Fix Outlook WAB.DLL Error

Microsoft Outlook is a popular mailing application from Microsoft, using which people can manage their entire mails, journals, address, events, calendars, and much more. Though it is a versatile email program, sometimes Outlook may stop working due to various reasons.

Sometimes a bad PST or a bad DLL file can be the cause of the problem. One common DLL error that many Outlook users face is the WAB.DLL error. The two main reasons behind Outlook WAB.DLL error are either a bad DLL issue or old Outlook configurations.

The WAB.DLL file is an important part of the Outlook 2000 application. Sometimes when you try to open the Outlook 2000 address book, you might get the following error message, which says, “An error occurred while attempting to open the WAB. Unable to find the WAB.DLL". WAB means "Windows Address Book," and the WAB.DLL helps your computer retrieve the Outlook Address Book contact information.

Instructions

1. Go to the Start menu located on your Windows taskbar and click on Search. Select the option All Files and Folders.

2. Type in Wab32.dll into the Search text field and hit the Enter key on your keyboard.

3. You will be taken to the folder containing the WAB.DLL file. Right-click the file and select the option Rename. If you are unable to find the file, it means it was erased at some point of time, and you can proceed to Step 5.

4. Type Wab32.old to replace the original name and press the Enter key. Close the search window. Your address book information will remain intact after you rename the file because the WAB.DLL itself does not store the information. Rather, it allows the computer to access the information in another location.

5. Click Start, select Settings then click Control Panel.

6. Select Add/Remove Programs.

7. Click the Windows Setup tab at the top of the menu. Click the option Components, and then deselect the checkbox next to Microsoft Outlook Express. Now click the Apply button and wait for the program to uninstall.

8. Select the checkbox next to Microsoft Outlook Express. Click the Apply button to reinstall the program.

9. Finally restart your computer to let the changes take effect.
