How To Disable Windows Live Messenger On Your Computer

Windows Live Messenger is one of the most popular instant messenger services used worldwide. It automatically pops up when the computer is started as it is directly built into the Windows system. This is a great annoyance to most of the users but there is good news though. This program can be kept from popping-up, or uninstalled completely from the computer like any other programs that you have installed. Like I have said earlier in the discussion, it is a pretty tiresome task to have it always closed manually every time that appears on the home screen.   • Go to Start menu located at the bottom left corner of your computer’s home screen, and click on the Start button.
  • If you are using Windows XP, select the Run option from the menu list that appears after opening Start
  • Have the words services.msc typed in the box that gives next to the word Open. Press Enter or click OK. A dialog box with name Services will show up which show you the list of all the services and programs that are installed on the system.
  • You can either search for Windows Messenger or Windows Live Messenger in the list or navigate through the list for the same program.
  • Highlight the program that you want to disable to remove from the computer and then double click the program or press the Enter button on your keyboard. This will make the box Properties for the Windows Live Messenger program to appear.
  • From the drop-down menu option that appears near the word Startup Type, select the Disabled option.
  • A little down from the Startup Type, you will be able to see another button labeled Stop. Click on the same button. A dialog box will open and finish the process by closing the open dialog box.
